Drag City are pleased to present the reissue ofhypnotic syncretic guitar duo Bill MacKay andRyley Walkers recorded debut, Land of Plenty. And just in time for the 10th anniversary of theoriginal release.
Now, who remembers where they were in January2015? Bill and Ryley dont need to, theyve gotLand of Plenty to remind them. Thats when theymade the record, but a scant year before, theybarely knew each other. Once they met, though, they hit it off over mutual influences, like AlbertKing, Laura Nyro, Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, AliAkbar Khan and Jimi Hendrix.
While the two of them are generally divided up byspeakers, which is a groovy old-school way tohave stereo sound, their shared headspace is aconstant flow of ever-melding play, ranging acrossall sorts of genres and geographies from east towest and folding them immaculately into eachother, whether in moments of transition orextended meditation. Listening out for each otheras theyre picking, these boys dance together andnever land a foot wrong. Whether head-to-headwith six-strings or with Bill picking up his Requinto,
or Ryley picking up his 12-string, theseperformances sound rich. The live capture seems
to enhance the sound in all sorts of unpredictableways that activates with the chemistry in theirplaying and ultimately serves to elevate Land ofPlenty in its field.
Available to independent retailers on vinyl.
