Acid Jazz present a very special compilationmarking the 40th anniversary of group label
Countdown Records.
Countdown was originally founded by Eddie Piller,Maxine Conroy and Terry Rawlings and distributedby legendary UK independent Stiff Records. Thelabel reflected the burgeoning Mod revival sceneof the mid 1980s, alongside a vibrant New Wavesound, as Ed began to find his way as a labelexecutive.
It was a fresh and unique take on Mod thatattempted to place the scenes main acts in themainstream world. It almost worked too. Butdespite the brilliance of the signings, it was trippedup by the demise of Stiff, and the corporatedomination of the mid-80s charts.
Lessons would be learned and applied with Pillersnext label Acid Jazz, where Countdown refugeessuch as James Taylor and Mother Earths ChrisWhite went on to greater success.
This collection tells the labels story through thebest of its musical output, from mainstays such asMakin Time, The Prisoners and The Kick, alongside classics and rarities from theirgroundbreaking compilations, from which thisrelease in turn takes inspiration.
Presented in a beautiful sleeve layout with adistinctly modernist touch.
Coincides with a new book that further exploresthe Countdown legacy from Mod and beyond.
