47 years ago, Theodore Wing the Director Of Activities at Graterford Prison held an open call audition. Nearly all of the inmates (almost 1,600) tried out for this recreational program focused on reformation. Teds idea was to make a band, in particular a FUNK band. After the auditions wrapped Ted had made his choice. Power Of Attorney would consist of – Brother Edward J. X Smith (Guitar), Charles McDowell (Vocals & Bass), Gilberto Albizu (Percussion), Marion Wilson (Sax), Otis J. Graham (Drums), William Smith (Keys) Dwight Williams (Flute)

Spending over a thousand dollars of their own money, these men paid out of pocket for their instruments, studio time, and just a little creative escape. These six inmates, along with Ted Wing and correctional officers travelled twice to famed Sigma Sound Studios in downtown Philadelphia for two different recording sessions.
