Recorded in Scotland with Emily Scott firmly in the producers chair,Leave No Shadow finds the artist flowering in new territory from thatassociated with her band, Glasgow-based Modern Studies. The mostdistinctive sonic elements here are the swirling, enveloping stringarrangements written by Scott. With Susan Bears thoughtful bass
guitar and Owen Curtis Williamss delicate drums, the album takeson a luxurious timbre reminiscent of Jean Claude Vanniers late 60sstudio work or the evocative world-building of Fontana-era ScottWalker.
Chrysanths, or Chrysanthemums, are traditionally considered flowersof death and mourning in the west. While there is an embeddedsadness in Emily Scotts work on Leave No Shadow, the complexityand deft touch employed by the musician also points to renewal. Intarot, Death teaches one to outgrow ways of life, points to personal
