The Sacrilicious Sounds is a furious, sneering blast of punk rock that perfectly encapsulates the bands special fusion of hard rock, punk, and low-brow country culture. The Damned meets ZZ Top? The Motrhead of the Southwest? Something like that, sure, but ultimately The Supersuckers are their own thing, and on The Sacrilicious Sounds – and especially on the single Born With a Tail – singer Eddie Spaghettis woeful country laments begin to poke more assertively through their raw punk aggro. About that aggro: this is the band’s sole album with Rick Sims, of Illinois punk legends Didjits, on guitar, and Sims dutifully cranks up The Supersuckers already formidable wall of overdriven guitars. As an extra treat, Sims sings lead on the blistering Run Like a Motherfucker.
